Performing Arts & Dance

Our dance performance services are designed to help dancers improve strength, control, power, and longevity through a combination of objective movement analysis, individualized training programs, and long-term performance development. We work with dancers of all levels, from pre-professional students to collegiate and professional performers, to help them move more efficiently, perform at a higher level, and reduce their risk of injury.

Because dance demands a unique blend of artistry and athleticism, our approach addresses the specific physical requirements of dance, including turnout, balance, landing mechanics, mobility, and full-body strength.

Objective Testing

Our objective assessment process allows us to analyze how dancers generate and control movement during dance-specific tasks. Using validated performance metrics and movement analysis tools, we identify limitations, asymmetries, and potential injury risk factors that may affect technique or performance.

This evaluation helps guide individualized training recommendations so dancers can improve the physical qualities that support both technical execution and artistic performance.

Focus Areas:

  • Turnout control and hip stability

  • Balance and single-leg control

  • Strength and mobility asymmetry screening

  • Movement analysis during dance-specific tasks

  • Jump and landing mechanics

Individualized Performance Programming

Dance performance is built through structured, progressive training that develops the strength, control, and power necessary for high-level movement. Our performance programming is individualized based on each dancer’s goals, training background, technical demands, and performance schedule.

Programs are designed to improve strength, dynamic stability, power, and movement efficiency while addressing physical limitations identified during the assessment process.

Training plans are adjusted throughout the year to align with rehearsals, performances, and competition schedules, allowing dancers to continue progressing while minimizing fatigue and injury risk.

Common Issues

Dancers place unique demands on their bodies including repetitive jumping, extreme ranges of motion, prolonged rehearsals, and high levels of technical precision. These demands can lead to both acute injuries and overuse conditions that impact performance.

Our approach focuses on identifying the underlying movement limitations contributing to pain or dysfunction while helping dancers continue training safely whenever possible.

We commonly work with dancers experiencing:

  • Hip pain and labral injuries

  • Snapping hip

  • Achilles tendinopathy, tears and calf strains

  • Foot and ankle injuries - (Sprains, fractures, os trigonum)

  • Stress reactions and stress fractures

  • Knee pain

  • Low back pain

  • Turnout limitations or asymmetries

  • Balance and single-leg stability deficits

  • Jumping and landing mechanics concerns

  • Preventive care - building up strength and stability to prevent future injuries

  • Upper extremity - Neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists
