Return to sports
Being pain-free isn’t enough to return to sport
You need the strength, power, control, and sport-specific capacity to handle the demands of competition.
At Pillar, we bridge the gap between rehab and performance. Our return-to-sport process combines hands-on treatment, objective performance testing, and progressive, sport-specific training so you’re fully prepared to compete with confidence. We work closely with orthopedic surgeons, athletic trainers, and coaches to ensure a seamless, coordinated return-to-play process.
You’ll be guided through:
-
Clear return-to-play progressions
-
Objective benchmarks and testing
-
Sport-specific strength and movement training

WHO THIS IS FOR
-
Recovering from an injury and unsure if you're ready to return to sport
-
Cleared for activity but not feeling confident, strong, or explosive
-
Experiencing pain, instability, or compensation with cutting, jumping, or sprinting
-
Trying to return to a high level of performance, not just participation
-
Frustrated with being told you're “fine” but still not performing at your previous level
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Most rehab stops once pain decreases or basic strength returns
Most performance training skips over the rehab your body still needs.
We bridge that gap.
We combine rehabilitation, objective performance testing, and sport-specific strength and conditioning to prepare you for the actual demands of your sport, so you can return with confidence, control, and durability and mitigate the risk of re-injury.
What your plan may include
-
Strength and power development
-
Plyometric and jump training progressions
-
Sprinting, acceleration, and deceleration mechanics
-
Change of direction and cutting mechanics
-
Movement analysis and biomechanics retraining
-
Sport-specific conditioning and workload progression
-
Return-to-play testing and objective benchmarks
COMMON CONDITIONS WE HELP WITH
-
ACL injuries (pre- and post-op)
-
Meniscus injuries
-
Ankle sprains and instability
-
Hamstring strains
-
Patellofemoral pain
-
Tendinopathies (Achilles, patellar, etc.)
-
Hip and groin injuries
-
Shoulder injuries (for overhead athletes)
-
Recurrent injuries or inability to return to prior level
-
Persistent pain with sport-specific movements
RETURN TO sport (RTS) continuum
Returning to sport isn’t a single moment, it’s a progression. Successful return to play requires rebuilding strength, movement capacity, and sport-specific performance.
Rehabilitation
Early phases focus on restoring mobility, reducing pain, and rebuilding foundational strength following injury or surgery.
Strength & Capacity Development
As symptoms improve, training progresses to develop strength, single-leg capacity, and foundational plyometric ability required for higher-level movement.
Advanced Movement & Performance
You’ll transition into higher-velocity, sport-specific movements including acceleration, deceleration, cutting, and reactive drills that replicate the demands of your sport.
Return to Sport Testing
Objective testing evaluates strength, power, movement quality, and limb symmetry to determine readiness for competition. We use technology such as 3D motion analysis, force dynamometry, and evidence-based RTS tests.
You’ll receive clear benchmarks, a performance summary, and specific return-to-play recommendations, with progression based on your results, not arbitrary timelines.
what success looks like:
-
Confident, pain-free movement at full speed
-
Ability to cut, jump, and react without hesitation
-
Restored strength, power, and control
-
Meeting objective return-to-play benchmarks
-
limb strength symmetry, jump distance, movement quality assessment
-
-
Returning to competition feeling prepared... not rushed
